Semrush Local → GBPPromote

A Semrush Local alternative with credits for every location

Semrush Local runs $30 per location on Base and $60 on Pro, and its geo-grid scanning is metered in Map Rank Tracker credits. GBPPromote is $5.33 per location, and every location comes with 100 geo-grid credits a month — one map pin uses one credit — plus the same GBP automation.

What Semrush Local actually includes

Worth understanding properly before comparing anything, because the two tiers are very different products.

Semrush Local — sometimes called the Local Toolkit — is Semrush’s local SEO product. It can be bought on its own, so you don’t need a full Semrush subscription to use it, and there are three tiers priced per location per month.

Base — $30 per location

The Google Business Profile automation tier. You get automated GBP management driven by an AI agent, AI-generated post creation and publishing, automated photo posting, review auto-replies, negative review alerts, GBP edit protection so you can accept or reject changes others suggest, competitor review analytics, and geo-grid local rank tracking through the Map Rank Tracker with 375 credits included.

Pro — $60 per location

Everything in Base, plus the Listing Management tool that distributes your business data across 70+ directories through the Yext network, fuller review management and generation, advanced GBP management, hourly review updates, expanded competitor review analytics, a Listing Management API, and 1,225 Map Rank Tracker credits instead of 375.

Business — custom pricing

Customizable limits, priority support and a negotiated billing cycle, aimed at large multi-location operations.

It’s a well-built product and the AI agent approach to GBP management is genuinely good. Two things send people looking for an alternative, and neither is a quality complaint.

You may still see older tier names. Local Light, Local Essentials at $50 and Local Advanced at $60 circulate on third-party sites, as do the retired Basic at $20 and Premium at $40. Base, Pro and Business is what the live pricing page shows — if you’re on a legacy plan some newer features won’t be available until you upgrade the location.
The two real differences

Credits on the grid, and the price per location

Both platforms do geo-grid rank tracking. Only one of them charges you by the scan.

Map Rank Tracker is credit-metered

Geo-grid allowance per location, per month
Base
375
Pro

Semrush’s geo-grid is real and accurate — this isn’t a feature gap, it’s a metering one. Once scanning draws down a monthly allowance, the re-scan that tells you whether last week’s fix actually worked becomes a budget decision. Tripling the allowance is a $30 per location per month upgrade.

Credit allowances are Semrush’s published figures for Base and Pro. Semrush doesn’t publish a credits-per-scan rate, so we’re not going to invent one — how far 375 credits goes depends on your grid size and keyword count. Verified August 2026; confirm on semrush.com.

Ten client locations on Pro is $600 a month, or $7,200 a year — for the local toolkit alone. The same ten on GBPPromote is $53 a month with 1,000 geo-grid credits included — 100 for each location — no feature gated a tier up, and citations, one-click optimization and white-label reporting included.
Why teams switch

Same automation, more execution, one tier

The GBP automation overlaps heavily. What differs is what happens after the grid shows you a problem.

Grid credits that scale with your locations 100 each

Geo-grid scans across your service area on whatever cadence you choose, scheduled automatically, with trend reports and competitor overlays. Fix a category at eleven and re-scan at three — it costs nothing, so the feedback loop stays tight.

One-click optimization with scored tasks Deeper than Semrush

Semrush’s AI agent manages the profile well. GBPPromote goes a step further: fill categories, services, attributes, descriptions and keyword targeting in a single click, then work a task list ranked by how many points each remaining fix is worth.

Private feedback capture Not in Semrush Local

Both platforms reply to reviews with AI. Only GBPPromote gives you a feedback QR that routes an unhappy customer to you privately before they post — which is the cheapest reputation work there is. If Local Dominator is also on your list, the Local Dominator comparison looks at reviews the same way.

Competitor change tracking Not in Semrush Local

Semrush analyses competitor reviews and keywords. GBPPromote also shows what those competitors changed on their profiles — new category, eight fresh photos, a rewritten description — so you can react in days rather than next quarter.

Still comparing

Semrush Local vs the geo-grid specialists

Most people weighing Semrush Local are also looking at a dedicated map-rank tool. They’re not equivalent purchases, and the credit model is the thing they share.

Semrush vs Local Falcon

Local Falcon’s grid is deeper — up to 21×21 points, with grid controls and AI-surface tracking Semrush doesn’t attempt. But it’s a tracker only: no posting, no review replies, no profile management. Both meter scanning with credits.

Semrush vs Local Viking

Local Viking pairs GeoGrid tracking with heavy GBP posting — spintax, daisy chaining, unlimited posts — and adds suspension alerts. Its credit allowance per listing shrinks sharply as you add locations, which is the same trap in a different shape.

Semrush vs Local Dominator

Local Dominator competes on credit value, generally giving more grid scanning per dollar with a rolling allowance rather than monthly expiry. Narrower than Semrush overall, better if grid volume is the constraint.

Semrush vs BrightLocal

BrightLocal leans into audits, citation tracking and client reporting, with geo-grid as one component. Semrush’s GBP automation is stronger; BrightLocal’s reporting surface is broader. Pricing climbs with locations on both.

What every tool in this section shares is that scanning costs you something — credits, allowances, tiers. GBPPromote’s position is simply that measurement you’re reluctant to run stops being measurement, so every location comes with its own 100 grid credits a month and the price stays per location.

Straight answer

Which one should you actually buy?

We’d rather you pick correctly than pick us.

Stay with Semrush Local if

Directory distribution or the suite matters

Switch to GBPPromote if

Grid scanning and cost per location matter

  • You’ve been budgeting Map Rank Tracker credits instead of scanning when you need to

  • You want one-click optimization and scored tasks, which Semrush doesn’t offer

FAQs

Semrush Local alternative questions, answered

How much does Semrush Local cost? +
Three tiers, priced per location per month on annual billing. Base is $30 and covers GBP automation with an AI agent, AI post generation, automated photo posting, review auto-replies, GBP edit protection and 375 Map Rank Tracker credits. Pro is $60 and adds Listing Management across 70+ directories, review management and generation, hourly review updates, a Listing Management API and 1,225 credits. Business is custom-quoted for large portfolios. GBPPromote is $5.33 per location with everything included.
How much does Semrush local listings cost? +
Listing Management isn’t sold separately — it’s bundled into the Pro tier at $60 per location per month, so that’s the effective price of Semrush’s listing distribution. It runs on the Yext network and covers 70+ directories. GBPPromote doesn’t do directory distribution; it includes a citation finder and NAP consistency checker instead, so if wide listing sync is your requirement, Semrush Pro is the better purchase.
Can Semrush give rankings in specific Google cities or local markets? +
Yes. Semrush’s Map Rank Tracker does geo-grid local rank tracking, so you can see precise positions at individual points across a city rather than one averaged number. The constraint is that it’s credit-metered — 375 credits per location per month on Base, 1,225 on Pro — so how many cities, keywords and grid points you can cover is bounded by your allowance. GBPPromote runs the same style of geo-grid scanning with 100 credits included for every location each month, one credit per map pin, so the allowance grows as you add locations instead of being shared across all of them.
What are the best alternatives to Semrush for local SEO and local citation management in the US? +
Split it by which half you need. For citation management and directory distribution, the real alternatives are Yext, Synup, BrightLocal and Moz Local — though Moz Local only covers the US, Canada and the UK. For local rankings and GBP execution, look at Local Falcon and Local Dominator for pure geo-grid measurement, Localo for guided optimization, and GBPPromote for geo-grid plus one-click optimization, AI review replies and a citation finder at $5.33 per location. Most teams don’t need both halves at full strength: work out whether your bottleneck is inconsistent data across the web or position in the local pack, then buy for that.
Is GBPPromote a good Semrush Local alternative? +
If your bottleneck is grid credits or cost per location, yes. The GBP automation overlaps substantially — both do AI-driven profile management, AI post generation, automated photo posting and AI review replies. GBPPromote adds geo-grid scanning with 100 credits per location a month, one-click full-profile optimization with scored tasks, a private feedback QR and competitor change tracking, at $5.33 against $30 or $60. What it doesn’t replace is Semrush’s directory distribution or its Listing Management API.
Do I need a Semrush subscription to use Semrush Local? +
No — Semrush Local can be subscribed to on its own, with its own per-location pricing, so standalone access isn’t a differentiator between the two platforms. Where it does matter is if you’re already paying for Semrush Pro, Guru or Business for keyword research and site audits: in that case having local in the same login has real workflow value that we can’t match.
I need a Semrush API alternative — does GBPPromote have one? +
Not a REST API, so if you’re building against Semrush’s Listing Management API specifically, we’re not a drop-in replacement. What GBPPromote ships instead is an AI connector that links your account to Claude or ChatGPT, so you can query live account data in plain English rather than writing integration code — which covers most reporting and analysis needs without a build. It’s read-only, so an assistant can analyse but never edit a profile. Available worldwide, including the UK.
Does GBPPromote do geo-grid tracking like the Map Rank Tracker? +
Yes, and this is a genuine tie on capability rather than a gap. Both scan a grid of points around each location for Google Maps and local pack positions. The difference is metering: Semrush draws down one shared pool for the whole account, while every GBPPromote location gets its own 100 credits a month, so the allowance grows with your portfolio.
Is Semrush Local better at anything? +
Yes, in four places. Listing distribution to 70+ directories through the Yext network on the Pro tier. A Listing Management API. Hourly review data refresh. And if you already use Semrush for keyword research, backlinks and site audits, having local in the same account is a workflow advantage no standalone tool can offer. Its AI agent approach to GBP management is also well executed.
How hard is it to switch? +
Authorize Google Business Profile once and your locations pull in with categories, hours, photos and review history. The sensible approach is to rebuild one grid you already track in the Map Rank Tracker at the same size and keyword, run both for a few weeks, and compare the numbers yourself rather than taking our word for the accuracy. Book a demo if you’re moving more than a handful of locations.
