Local Viking → GBPPromote

A Local Viking alternative with credits on every location

Local Viking splits every plan into keyword credits and GeoGrid credits — and the more listings you add, the fewer credits each one gets. GBPPromote is $5.33 per location, with 100 geo-grid credits for each one every month, with the optimization, reviews and citations Local Viking doesn’t cover.

What Local Viking gets right

It’s one of the few tools that combined GBP management and GeoGrid tracking early, and parts of it are still ahead of us.

Local Viking was built for the agency doing hands-on Google Business Profile work, and the details show it. Every plan includes unlimited GBP posts. It supports spintax so you can rotate post copy across a portfolio without writing every variant. Post daisy chaining keeps profiles publishing on a rolling schedule. Attribute Sentry watches for malicious edits to your listing, and it notifies you on suspensions — which is the kind of feature you only build if you’ve actually lost a client’s listing at 2am. The GeoGrid tracker handles international targeting and lets you shift grid centres to see how 3-pack visibility changes across a city.

If you’re one agency managing a handful of listings and posting constantly, that’s a good toolkit. Three things tend to push people to look elsewhere.

The credit allowance doesn’t scale with the listing count

This is the big one, and it’s arithmetic rather than opinion — the section below works it out. Adding listings to your plan adds far fewer GeoGrid credits per listing, so tracking gets thinner exactly as your portfolio gets bigger.

It tracks and posts, but it doesn’t optimize or fix

There’s no citation finder, no NAP consistency checker, and no profile optimizer that tells you which fields to fill to climb. When the grid shows a weak zone, closing it is still manual work in the Google interface.

You commit before you try it

There’s no free trial. You pay first and rely on a refund guarantee if it isn’t right — which is a meaningfully different decision from starting a trial with no card.

The real comparison

The credit allowance shrinks as you grow

Local Viking’s published tiers, divided by the listings each tier covers. This is the number that decides most switches.

Published tier allowances, verified August 2026. Going from 1 listing to 10 adds 600 GeoGrid credits in total — a 6% increase in the pool for a 10× increase in listings.

What that buys per location

A 7×7 grid is 49 credits per keyword, per scan
5 keywords× 4 weekly scans× 49 pins= 980 credits / location

On the Starter plan each listing has 810 GeoGrid credits a month. So tracking five keywords weekly on a modest grid doesn’t fit — you’d be rationing to roughly three keywords, or dropping to fortnightly scans. On Enterprise, with 463 credits per listing, you get about nine 7×7 scans per location per month total. That’s two keywords weekly, and nothing left over for the re-scan that tells you whether last week’s fix worked.

Widen to a 9×9 grid for a service-area business and every number above gets 65% worse.

On GBPPromote the arithmetic is simpler. Every location comes with its own 100 geo-grid credits each month and a map pin costs one credit, so the allowance grows as you add locations instead of being split between them.
Why teams switch

Tracking and posting, plus the work in between

Local Viking covers the first two well. The rest is where the map pack is actually won.

One-click optimization and scored tasks Not in Local Viking

Fill categories, services, attributes, descriptions and keyword targeting across a full profile in a single click. Smart tasks then rank what’s left by how many points each fix is worth, so the weak zone on the grid becomes a to-do list instead of a mystery.

Citations and NAP consistency Not in Local Viking

A citation finder to surface missing listings and a NAP checker to catch mismatched name, address and phone data across the web. Local Viking has no citation tooling at all, so this is currently a separate subscription for its users.

AI review replies and a private feedback route Not in Local Viking

Local Viking monitors reviews. GBPPromote answers them — AI drafts, saved templates or your own, so a 40-location portfolio can reply on-brand without a content person. A feedback QR catches unhappy customers privately before the one-star lands.

Competitor change tracking Not in Local Viking

Both tools show competitor positions on the grid. Only GBPPromote shows what those competitors actually changed — new category, eight fresh photos, a rewritten description — which is the part you can act on.

Local Viking tier data verified August 2026 from published plan breakdowns: Single $39 (1 listing, 1,600 keyword and 7,500 GeoGrid credits), Starter $59 (10 listings, 3,200 and 8,100), Enterprise $200 (70 listings, 26,600 and 32,400, plus white-label reporting and the GeoGrid widget). Cost, honestly

We’re not cheaper at every size

At high listing counts Local Viking’s headline number is lower than ours. Here’s the whole picture rather than the flattering half.

ListingsGBPPromoteLocal VikingGrid credits each
1$5.33 7× cheaper$397,500
10$53.30 cheaper$59810
70$373.10 pricier$200463

At one or ten listings we’re the obvious choice on price alone. At seventy, Local Viking’s Enterprise tier is $173 cheaper per month and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.

What that $373.10 buys instead is 70 locations with unlimited grid scanning, one-click optimization on every profile, AI review replies, a citation finder, NAP checking, competitor change tracking and white-label reports — none of which Local Viking includes at any tier. To assemble that on their side you’d add a citation tool and a review platform on top of the $200, and you’d still be scanning nine times a month per location. The question isn’t which line item is smaller. It’s what the two bills actually cover.

If your seventy locations genuinely only need a grid scan and a post schedule, Local Viking Enterprise is the cheaper answer and you should take it.

Switch without a gap in your reporting

Start on the trial, overlap for a cycle, then cancel.

Connect your profiles

Authorize Google Business Profile once and every listing pulls in with categories, hours, photos and review history. Agencies can import client groups straight into separate workspaces.

Rebuild grids and post queues

Recreate the grids you already scan, at the size and cadence you actually wanted rather than the one credits allowed. Re-queue your recurring posts — there’s no cap on volume here either.

Turn on what Local Viking didn’t cover

Run one-click optimization across the portfolio, switch on AI review replies, and let the citation finder tell you what’s missing. Then cancel before the next billing date.

Still comparing

Local Viking vs Local Falcon vs Local Dominator

Most people shortlisting a GeoGrid tool are weighing three or four at once, and they’re less alike than the category name suggests.

Local Viking vs Local Falcon is manager versus instrument. Local Falcon’s grid is deeper — up to 21×21 points — with more grid control, competitor overlays and AI-surface tracking, but it doesn’t post or manage anything. Local Viking is the weaker tracker and the better manager. Local Dominator competes directly with Local Viking on credit value and tends to give more credits per dollar with a rolling allowance instead of monthly expiry. Whitespark sits elsewhere again — its Local Citation Finder is the best citation research tool in local, and its rank tracking is more conventional.

What none of them do is close the loop between the scan and the fix, which is the whole reason GBPPromote is priced per location rather than per pin.

FAQs

Local Viking alternative questions, answered

Is GBPPromote a good Local Viking alternative? +
For most teams, yes. Both do GeoGrid tracking and GBP posting, so the overlap is real. GBPPromote adds what Local Viking doesn’t cover — one-click profile optimization, smart ranking tasks, AI review replies, a citation finder and NAP checker, and competitor change tracking — with 100 geo-grid credits on every location and a free trial. Local Viking keeps the edge on spintax, post daisy chaining and its Attribute Sentry edit protection.
How much does Local Viking cost? +
Five tiers, from Single at $39/month for one listing to Enterprise at $200/month for 70. Every plan includes unlimited GBP posts, and each comes with a fixed pool of keyword credits and GeoGrid credits. GBPPromote is $5.33 per location per month with scans included — so $5.33 at one listing against $39, and $53.30 at ten against $59. Our pricing is here.
How do Local Viking’s GeoGrid credits actually work out? +
Each credit is a grid point, so a 7×7 grid costs 49 credits per keyword per scan. The Single plan has 7,500 GeoGrid credits for one listing, which is generous. The Starter plan has 8,100 for ten listings — 810 each — and Enterprise has 32,400 for seventy, or 463 each. At 463 credits you get about nine 7×7 scans per location per month, which is roughly two keywords tracked weekly.
Does GBPPromote use credits? +
Yes, geo-grid scans use credits: one credit per map pin. The difference is how they are handed out. Every location comes with 100 credits a month inside the per-location price, so your allowance grows as you add locations rather than being split across a shared pool, and you can top up if you need more.
Does Local Viking have a free trial? +
No — it offers a refund guarantee instead, so you pay first. GBPPromote has a free trial with no card required, and several free tools you can use without an account at all.
Is Local Viking cheaper than GBPPromote? +
At 70 listings, yes — Enterprise at $200 beats our $373.10, and we’d rather say so than have you discover it later. At 1 or 10 listings we’re cheaper. And at any count, the $200 covers tracking and posting only, while our price also includes optimization, reviews, citations and white-label reporting. Whether that’s worth the difference depends on whether you’d be buying those separately anyway.
What does GBPPromote do that Local Viking doesn’t? +
One-click location optimization, smart ranking tasks scored by impact, AI review replies with custom templates, a private feedback QR, a citation finder with NAP consistency checking, competitor change tracking, white-label reporting on every plan rather than the top tier, and an AI connector that lets you query your account from Claude or ChatGPT.
Is Local Viking better at anything? +
Yes, and it’s worth knowing before you move. Attribute Sentry watches for malicious edits to your listings and it notifies you on suspensions. Spintax and automatic post daisy chaining make high-volume posting across a portfolio easier than we do. And its embeddable GeoGrid widget is genuinely useful on a client-facing page. If those are load-bearing for you, stay put.
Does GBPPromote handle citations like Local Viking? +
Local Viking has no citation tooling, so there’s nothing to match. We include a citation finder to surface missing listings and a NAP consistency checker to catch mismatched details — which for most switchers replaces a separate subscription.
