Local Dominator is a serious geo-grid tool

These two products overlap more than most comparisons on this site, so it’s worth being precise about where they actually diverge.

Local Dominator’s core is a Google Maps heatmap that plots your ranking at every point across a service area, street by street. Its v1.5 release in mid-2026 sharpened the grid visuals and added competitor overlays you can click into on any pin to see the rank gap against the top competitor at that spot. Beyond Maps it covers traditional SERP tracking and an AI Tracker that audits how often ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews mention or recommend a business — genuinely ahead of most of the category on that last one. White-label reporting is included on every tier, team member access is unlimited, and it integrates with Looker Studio, HighLevel and Make.

It also has a 7-day free trial with no card required, plus a permanent free Trial Mode demo. If you read elsewhere that it has no trial, that’s out of date.

So this isn’t a weak-competitor page. Three specific things send people looking.

The credit system is hard to plan around

Everything runs on credits, and the conversion isn’t intuitive: 5,000 credits on Lite works out to roughly 60 heatmap scans at a 9×9 grid. Widen the grid or add keywords and that number falls fast. Rolling, non-expiring credits only begin at the Pro tier, so on the two cheapest plans unused credits are gone at month end. Users describe the model as opaque, and it’s the most common complaint.

The two most useful extras are paid add-ons

The AI Tracker is $49 per site and the Citations Builder is $35 per location, both on top of your plan. At fifteen locations, Citations Builder alone is $525 a month sitting on a $59 plan. If you’d want either, factor them in before comparing headline prices.

It’s built for advanced users

The dashboard is technical and the learning curve is steep — fine if you’re an experienced local SEO, frustrating if you want to log in and know what to fix. SERP Tracker is also capped at a single campaign on Lite.

What the cheaper headline doesn’t include: the profiles on a tier share one capped credit pool, unused credits expire below Pro, and the AI Tracker ($49 per site) and Citations Builder ($35 per location) are extra.
