How to Add or Remove a GBP Profile in GBPPromote

Adding a Google Business Profile takes 5 steps and about 5 minutes. Removing one takes 3 clicks. Removing a profile never deletes it on Google. Here is both flows with a screenshot at every step, plus the 3 reasons a profile does not show up after you connect.

The short answer

To add a GBP profile to GBPPromote, go to Settings, click GBP Profiles, click Add Location, connect your Google account, click Gather Profiles and add the profile you want. To remove one, go to Settings, click GBP Profiles, click the three dots settings icon on the profile, then click Delete. Removing only disconnects the profile from GBPPromote. Your listing on Google is not deleted or changed in any way.

The part people hesitate on. The button says Delete, so people assume it deletes the Google listing. It does not. It removes the profile from your GBPPromote dashboard and nothing else. Reviews, photos, posts, hours and verification all stay on Google exactly as they were. If you want a listing gone from Google Maps, that is done inside Google Business Profile, not here.

Before you add a profile

Adding a profile is quick, but 1 thing decides whether it works. The Google account you connect must be an owner or manager of the profile. GBPPromote can only see profiles that account can manage.

  • Check who owns the profile. If a client, an old employee or an agency owns it, ask them to add your Google account as a manager first
  • Check it is verified. Unverified profiles may not appear in the gathered list
  • Use the right Google account. Many people have 2 or 3. Pick the one that manages the profile, not the one you use for email
  • Know your plan’s location count. Every profile you add counts as a location. Pricing is on the pricing page

Google explains roles on its help page on owners and managers. A manager role is enough. You do not need to be the primary owner.

How to add a GBP profile: 5 steps

Step 1: Open Settings and click GBP Profiles

Opening Settings and clicking GBP Profiles in GBPPromote
Settings, then GBP Profiles. Every connected profile is listed here.

Sign in to GBPPromote. Open Settings from the menu, then click GBP Profiles. This screen lists every profile already connected to your account. If it is empty, you have not connected one yet. Once a profile is listed on this screen, it is also the one you point at when you connect GBPPromote to Claude or ChatGPT.

Step 2: Click Add Location

Clicking the Add Location button on the GBP Profiles screen in GBPPromote
Add Location starts the connection flow.

Click Add Location. In GBPPromote a location and a profile are the same thing: 1 Google Business Profile is 1 location.

Step 3: Click Connect Google and sign in

Connecting a Google account to GBPPromote
Sign in with the Google account that manages the profile.

Click Connect Google. A Google sign in window opens. Sign in with the account that owns or manages the profile you want, then approve the access Google asks for. GBPPromote needs that access to read the profile and publish posts, photos and review replies on your behalf.

If you manage profiles under several Google accounts, you will do this step once per account. Connect the first one now and repeat the flow later for the others.

Step 4: Click Gather Profiles

Clicking Gather Profiles to pull in Google Business Profiles from the connected account
Gather Profiles pulls every profile the connected account can manage.

Click Gather Profiles. GBPPromote asks Google for every profile the connected account can manage and lists them. If the account manages 40 locations, all 40 appear. You are not adding them yet, only seeing them.

Step 5: Pick the profile and add it

Find the profile in the list and click Add. It appears on your dashboard straight away. Add only the profiles you plan to manage, because each one counts as a location on your plan.

What to do next. Open the new location with Manage and check the details pulled in from Google look right. Then set up posting by following how to automate GMB posts, and run a rank scan so you have a starting point to measure against.

Profile not showing after Gather Profiles?

This is the 1 place people get stuck. The fix is almost always on the Google side, not in GBPPromote.

Step 1: Open Settings and click GBP Profiles

Opening Settings and clicking GBP Profiles in GBPPromote
Settings, then GBP Profiles. Every connected profile is listed here.

Open Settings from the menu, then click GBP Profiles. Find the profile you want to remove in the list.

Step 2: Click the three dots settings icon

Clicking the three dots settings icon on a profile row in GBPPromote
The three dots icon on the profile row opens its options.

On the profile’s row, click the three dots settings icon. A small menu opens with the options for that profile.

Step 3: Click Delete

Clicking Delete to remove a Google Business Profile from GBPPromote
Delete removes the profile from your dashboard. Google is untouched.

Click Delete. The profile is removed from GBPPromote straight away and the location slot on your plan is freed. The listing itself stays live on Google, so there is nothing to undo there.

Removing is the wrong tool for 2 jobs. If you only want to stop automated posts, turn off auto post in the Post section instead and keep the profile connected. If you want the listing gone from Google Maps, that is done inside Google Business Profile. Removing from GBPPromote does neither of those things.

What removing a profile does and does not do

What changes

  • The profile leaves your GBPPromote dashboard
  • Scheduled posts and media for it stop, because GBPPromote can no longer publish to it
  • Review alerts and reports for it stop
  • The location slot on your plan is freed

What does not change

  • The listing stays live on Google Search and Maps
  • Reviews, photos and posts already on Google stay where they are
  • Hours, phone, address and categories are untouched
  • Verification and ownership on Google are untouched
  • Your Google account is still connected for any other profiles

You can add the same profile again later by running through the add steps. It connects like a new profile, so give it a little time to pull in fresh data.

Managing many profiles

Agencies and multi-location brands add and remove profiles all the time, as clients come and go or branches open and close. A few habits keep it clean.

  • Get manager access on the client’s Google account rather than owning the profile yourself. When the client leaves, you remove the profile from GBPPromote and they keep full control on Google
  • Connect 1 Google account per client, so gathering profiles for a new client never mixes with another client’s locations
  • Remove profiles the day a client churns. A forgotten profile keeps a location slot on your plan and keeps publishing scheduled posts
  • Add locations in groups when onboarding a chain, then set up posting once for the group instead of location by location

The multi-location dashboard handles grouping and bulk actions once profiles are connected, and franchise setups let a local manager see their own location without access to the rest.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a GBP profile to GBPPromote?
Open Settings, click GBP Profiles, then click Add Location. Click Connect Google and sign in with the Google account that owns or manages the profile. Click Gather Profiles, find the profile in the list and click Add. It takes about 5 minutes and the profile shows on your dashboard straight away.
How do I remove a GBP profile from GBPPromote?
Open Settings, click GBP Profiles, click the three dots settings icon on the profile you want to remove, then click Delete. The profile disappears from GBPPromote straight away. Your Google Business Profile itself is not deleted or changed.
Does removing a profile from GBPPromote delete my Google Business Profile?
No. Removing a profile only disconnects it from GBPPromote. Your listing, reviews, photos, posts and verification on Google stay exactly as they were. If you want a listing removed from Google Maps, that is done inside Google Business Profile, not inside GBPPromote.
Why is my location not showing after I connect Google?
The most common reason is that the Google account you connected is not an owner or manager of that profile. Gather Profiles only pulls in profiles the connected account can manage. Check the profile’s owners and managers in Google Business Profile, add the account if needed, then click Gather Profiles again. Unverified profiles may also not appear.
Can I connect more than 1 Google account?
Yes. Agencies often manage profiles across several client Google accounts. Repeat the Add Location and Connect Google steps for each account, then gather and add the profiles you need from each one.
Can I add a profile again after removing it?
Yes. Go through the add steps again and select the profile from the gathered list. It connects like a new profile, so give it a little time to pull in fresh data.
Does adding or removing a profile change what I pay?
GBPPromote is priced per location, so each profile you add counts toward your plan and removing one frees that slot. Pricing is 16 US dollars a month for 1 location, 37 flat for 2 to 7, and 5.33 per location from 8 up. Check the pricing page for the current numbers.
What happens to scheduled posts when I remove a profile?
Anything GBPPromote had scheduled for that profile stops, because the platform can no longer publish to it. Posts, photos and replies already sent to Google stay on the profile. If you only want to pause automation, turn off auto post in the Post section instead of removing the profile.
