BrightLocal Review 2026: Pricing, Features, Pros and Cons

The most trusted name in local SEO auditing, and the reputation is earned. 2 things decide whether it suits you: reviews are gated to the top tier, and the price multiplies with location count.

BrightLocal is the best auditing and client reporting tool in local SEO, and it is honest about not being anything else. The Local Search Audit explains why each issue matters rather than just flagging it, and the client onboarding workflow is widely called best in category. 2 things decide whether it suits you. Review management is Grow tier only, so the real entry price is $59 rather than $39. And pricing scales by location bracket: about $449 a month at 41 to 50 locations, not $59.

We build GBPPromote, which competes with BrightLocal. Where they are better, the comparison below says so, and there are more of those rows than in most comparisons in this series. This review also corrects errors in our own earlier version, by name, in 2 places.

What is BrightLocal?

A local SEO platform built around auditing, tracking and reporting, for agencies and multi-location businesses that need to measure local performance and prove it to a client.

It is not trying to run your profile for you. It tells you where you stand, what is broken, and hands you a report you can send without editing. That is a narrower job than several tools in this category attempt, and BrightLocal does it better than most of them.

What it covers

  • Local Search Audit. Profile, website SEO and citations audited together, with plain language explanations
  • Local rank tracking. Location and device level, not city averages
  • Local Search Grid. Geo-grid rank tracking, well regarded by reviewers
  • Citation Tracker. Finds inconsistent details and duplicates across directories
  • Citation Builder. Build or fix listings, charged separately at around $2 per citation
  • Listings sync across Google, Bing, Facebook and Apple, with edit suppression, on Manage and up
  • Reputation Manager. Reviews across Google, Yelp and Facebook, Grow tier only
  • Competitor insights. Rival rankings, reviews and visibility
  • White label reporting. Branded, client-ready output
The tier note that changes the price. Review management is Grow only. Track and Manage include no review monitoring, no review campaigns and no review widgets. If reputation work is part of your deliverable, BrightLocal’s real entry price is $59 a month, not $39. Our earlier review presented review monitoring as a general capability with no gate mentioned. That was misleading and it is corrected throughout.

It has a geo-grid tracker, and it is good

The Local Search Grid tracks rankings across a geo grid for a location, and independent reviewers rate it among the best implementations in the category, cheaper than several dedicated alternatives.

We mention this because geo-grid tracking gets used as a differentiator in comparisons like this one. Against BrightLocal it is not one, and pretending otherwise would be easy to check.

How BrightLocal works: a 6 step walkthrough

A diagnostic workflow. Audit, find citation problems, fix them, track rank, manage reputation, report. Every step produces something you can hand to a client.

Step 1: Run the Google Business Profile audit

BrightLocal Google Business Profile audit results

A full health check: verification status, name and address accuracy, hours, images, duplicate listings and keyword benchmarking against competitors. This is BrightLocal’s signature and the reason many agencies buy it.

Why it is different from most audits: it explains why each issue matters in plain language rather than producing a list of red flags. That makes it usable as a client facing document straight out of the tool, which is where the time saving actually comes from.

Step 2: Find citation problems with the Citation Tracker

BrightLocal Citation Tracker showing NAP inconsistencies

Gathers your directory listings into 1 dashboard, flags inconsistent details and duplicates in red, highlights priority directories and gives a citation health score.

Note what the Track plan includes here. Track covers citation tracking only. It finds problems but does not build or fix listings. Reviewers report this catches new users out, so read the plan you are buying carefully.

Step 3: Fix and build with Citation Builder

BrightLocal Citation Builder progress report

Fix listings yourself, or use the done-for-you option where their team builds and corrects citations, with a live progress report showing what is complete and pending.

This costs extra. Citation Builder is priced separately from your subscription at around $2 per citation, on a credit basis. For a client needing 50 citations that is $100 on top of the plan. Budget for it rather than assuming it is included. It is the most common source of unexpected BrightLocal spend.

Step 4: Track rank by location and device

Rankings at location and device level rather than a vague city average, plus the Local Search Grid for geo-grid tracking. Competitor rankings sit alongside yours, and everything feeds the report.

Device level tracking matters more than it sounds. Mobile and desktop local results diverge, and most of your customers are on a phone.

Step 5: Manage reputation, if you are on Grow

BrightLocal Reputation Manager review dashboard

Reviews from Google, Yelp and Facebook in 1 inbox, with AI assisted reply templates, branded email and SMS review campaigns including QR codes and kiosk mode, and embeddable widgets to show reviews on your site.

Grow tier only. None of this exists on Track or Manage. If reviews are part of what you do, this step is the reason your plan costs $59 rather than $39, and it is worth deciding that before you sign up to the cheaper tier and find out.

Step 6: Report to the client

White label reports with your logo and colours, ready to send without manual formatting. This is where BrightLocal’s reputation comes from: create a client, run the audit, hand over a branded PDF, and the whole loop takes an afternoon.

Reviewers consistently describe this client onboarding workflow as the best in the category, and having compared several tools, that assessment looks fair.

What it does not do is act. No auto-posting, no automated review replies, no profile optimisation executed for you. BrightLocal tells you and reports on it. The work stays with your team. That is a design decision, not an oversight, and the mismatch to avoid is buying it expecting the work to get done.

BrightLocal pricing: the real numbers

BrightLocal pricing plans Track, Manage and Grow

3 tiers, and the headline figures you see quoted are usually the annual rate. Paying monthly costs about a third more.

PlanMonthly billingAnnual, per monthAnnual totalWhat it adds
Track$39$29$348Rank tracking, audits, citation tracking, competitor insights, reports
Manage$49$36$432Adds listings sync across Google, Bing, Facebook and Apple, edit suppression, bulk GBP posts
Grow$59$44$528Adds review management, review campaigns, review widget

Prices shown are for a single location. Verified August 2026. Annual billing saves roughly 25 percent. An earlier version of this article showed the annual rates as the monthly price, which understated monthly billing by about 34 percent.

The 14 day trial is genuinely good. 14 days, no credit card required. That is real evaluation time with no commitment, and more generous than most of this category. Several competitors require a sales call, and 1 offers only a discounted first month you have to remember to cancel.

How BrightLocal cost scales with locations

The $39 to $59 figures are the 1 location bracket. Price moves up through location tiers, and this is the single most important thing to understand before committing.

LocationsTrackGrowGrow, annual billing
1$39$59$44
11 to 20not publishedabout $179about $134

100not publishedabout $899about $674

Bracket pricing as published and reported August 2026. Confirm current brackets directly. These change more often than the headline tier prices, and they are the numbers you actually pay.

Read the 41 to 50 row. A Grow plan across 50 locations is $449 a month, not $59. That is a perfectly defensible price for what it does, but it is a different conversation from the one the headline figure starts.

Also worth knowing: reviewers report BrightLocal does not scale smoothly past around 50 locations. If you are heading beyond that, test it at your real volume during the trial rather than assuming the experience at 5 locations carries over.

Annual billing is worth more the bigger you get. The 25 percent saving applies at every bracket, so it compounds. At 1 location it saves $10 a month. At 50 it saves about $112 a month, and at 100 roughly $225.

What is gated to which tier

Feature gates matter more than the price gaps here. The $10 steps between tiers are small. What sits behind them is not.

2 decisions come out of that table, and they are the only 2 that matter:

  • Do you need to manage listings or post? If yes, Manage is the floor. Track is monitoring only
  • Do you need reviews? If yes, Grow is the only option and your entry price is $59, not $39. There is no partial review capability lower down
The practical read: most agencies offering a full local SEO package end up on Grow, because reviews are almost always part of the deliverable. Price your evaluation from $59 and treat the $39 headline as the monitoring-only tier it actually is.

What BrightLocal users actually say

Consistent themes across public reviews: the audit and the client workflow are why people stay. Automation and scaling cost are the recurring frustrations.

What comes up positively

  • The Local Search Audit. The most cited strength. It explains issues rather than listing them
  • Client onboarding workflow. Create a client, run an audit, send a branded PDF
  • Rank tracking accuracy. Location and device level, trusted for client reporting
  • Local Search Grid. The geo-grid tracker is rated among the best available
  • White label reports. Ready to send without formatting work
  • Value at low location counts. Genuinely affordable for a single business

What comes up negatively

  • Limited automation. The most common criticism. It reports, you act
  • Citation Builder costs extra. Repeatedly described as catching new agencies out
  • Track excludes citation building. A source of confusion at signup
  • Scaling past about 50 locations. Reported as not smooth
  • Review management gated to Grow. Surprises buyers who chose a lower tier
  • No social media module. A genuine gap for agencies offering it

The pattern is a tool that does its stated job very well and is honest about not attempting the rest. Almost none of the criticism is about accuracy or reliability, which is a better position than most of this category manages.

Use the 14 days properly. Since the trial needs no card, run a real client through it end to end: audit, citation check, rank scan, report. If the report is something you would actually send, that answers the question faster than any comparison table.

Pros and cons

Where it genuinely delivers

  • The Local Search Audit. Explains why each issue matters and how to fix it
  • Client onboarding. Create client, audit, branded PDF. Widely called best in category
  • Local Search Grid. Rated among the best geo-grid trackers available
  • Location and device level tracking. Not a city average
  • 14 day trial, no card. Real evaluation with zero commitment
  • Listings sync across 4 networks with edit suppression
  • Transparent tier pricing. Published, comparable, no sales call required

Things to consider before buying

  • Price scales by location bracket. $59 becomes about $449 at 41 to 50 locations
  • Review management is Grow only. Real entry price is $59
  • Citation Builder charged per citation. Around $2 each, on top
  • Monthly billing costs 25 percent more than the annual rate most comparisons quote
  • No automation. No auto-posting, no automated review replies
  • Does not scale past about 50 locations smoothly, per reviewer reports
  • No social media module, store locator, location pages or website builder

None of the second column is a flaw so much as a boundary. BrightLocal is a diagnostic tool and does not claim otherwise.

Who should use BrightLocal in 2026?

BrightLocal fits

  • Agencies whose product includes audits and client reporting
  • Anyone onboarding new clients regularly
  • Single businesses and small agencies where $39 to $59 is proportionate
  • Teams who want geo-grid tracking without a dedicated tool
  • Beginners who need explanations, not just red flags
  • Anyone who wants to evaluate free for 14 days with no card

Look elsewhere if

  • You want the work done, not measured
  • You manage many locations, because the price multiplies steeply
  • You are heading past about 50 locations
  • You wanted reviews on a cheaper tier, because they are Grow only
  • You need citation building included rather than $2 each
  • Social media, a store locator or location pages are part of your offer
The clearest test: count your locations, then decide whether you need reviews. Under 10 locations with reviews needed, Grow at $59 is a fair price for a genuinely good audit and reporting tool. Over 40 locations, look hard at $449 a month and ask what else that budget could buy.

All 45 GBPPromote features

GBPPromote dashboard showing Google Business Profile performance across locations
One dashboard across every location, whether that is 1 profile or 400.

The previous version of this article listed 5 GBPPromote features. There are 45. Here they are, grouped by what they are actually for.

Rank and visibility

7 tools
  • Local rank checker, free, no account
  • Local pack rank tracking, scheduled geo-grid scans
  • Service area business rank tracker, for businesses without a storefront
  • Keyword research, local terms worth ranking for
  • Competitors spy, what rivals changed, not just where they rank
  • AI visibility tracker, your brand across 6 AI search engines
  • Location local rank full report, the complete picture per location

Being straight here: BrightLocal’s Local Search Grid is a well regarded geo-grid tracker, so this is not a capability gap. What differs is that these scans are included at a rate that falls with volume rather than rising through location brackets, plus a service area rank tracker and competitor change tracking.

Reviews and reputation

10 tools
  • AI review reply, custom prompt, your tone
  • Template auto reply, your own written responses
  • Template auto rotation, so 40 replies never read alike
  • Review request automation, email sequences
  • Centralised reviews management, every location, 1 inbox
  • Review alerts, instant, per rating
  • Review widget, display reviews on your own site
  • Magic QR code, smart review collection
  • Feedback QR and AI QR code, capture before it goes public
  • Survey QR, build with AI, collect by QR, summarise

Template rotation is the one nobody else has. AI replies that all follow the same structure are visible to anyone scrolling your profile. Rotation varies them deliberately, which matters more the more reviews you answer.

Profile automation

10 tools
  • Auto post, set it once, it keeps running
  • Auto media dripfeed, photos released on a schedule
  • GMB post scheduler, offers, updates, events
  • GMB media scheduler, images and video queued
  • Optimization, find gaps, fix from the audit screen
  • Bulk optimization, apply fixes across every location
  • Bulk update, hours, services, attributes at once
  • Smart tasks, the platform tells you what needs doing
  • Profile protection, catch unwanted third-party edits
  • Brand consistency, flag locations drifting off-brand

This is the group BrightLocal deliberately leaves to you. Manage and Grow allow bulk GBP posting, so posting is not absent entirely, but nothing here runs automatically and profile protection has no equivalent. If your audit keeps flagging the same issues month after month, this is the group that closes them.

Listings and citations

3 tools

Included rather than charged per citation. BrightLocal’s Citation Builder is around $2 per citation on top of the subscription. Here the directory work is part of the price.

Web presence

5 tools

The private media library solves a real operational problem. Getting current photos out of franchisees or store managers is usually a chase. A link they can upload to removes the chase.

Reporting and agency

5 tools

Portfolio reporting is the agency specific one. Not a report per client assembled one at a time, but 1 view across every account you manage.

Platform and integrations

5 tools
  • MCP connector, ask Claude or ChatGPT about your locations
  • Google Analytics connector, website traffic alongside profile data
  • Zapier integration, route alerts anywhere
  • Add team members, roles and permissions per location
  • Multi language, replies and content beyond English

No equivalent in BrightLocal. The MCP connector lets your own AI assistant read your location data and answer questions in plain language, read-only and scoped to what you authorise. Worth noting the other way round: BrightLocal integrates listings across Google, Bing, Facebook and Apple, which is wider listings reach than we offer.

The honest summary of that list

45 features is not automatically better than 15. Breadth only counts if you use it, and a single location owner will touch perhaps 10 of these.

Where it matters is the total at your location count. Price BrightLocal Grow at your actual bracket, add citation credits at $2 each, add whatever handles posting and review replies, and compare that total. At 1 location the gap is modest. At 50 it is several hundred dollars a month.

BrightLocal vs GBPPromote

Overlapping but differently aimed. BrightLocal audits and reports better. GBPPromote executes and costs less at scale.

The bolded BrightLocal rows are deliberate. The Local Search Audit, the client onboarding workflow, the 14 day no-card trial, listings sync across 4 networks and the Local Search Grid are all genuine advantages, and the first 2 are things reviewers consistently call best in the category. If auditing and reporting is your product, BrightLocal is the right tool and this table should not talk you out of it.

Put simply: BrightLocal is the best tool in this category for telling a client what is wrong. GBPPromote is built for fixing it. If your business model is the audit and the monthly report, buy BrightLocal. If it is “we manage your profiles”, the reporting-only tool leaves the actual job on your desk.

What each costs at scale

This is where BrightLocal’s bracket pricing shows. The gap is modest at 1 location and several hundred dollars a month at 50.

LocationsBrightLocal GrowPlus citations at about $2 eachGBPPromote, all inMonthly gap
1$59plus per citation$16.00$43
5about $99plus per citation$37.00about $62
20about $179plus per citation$106.60about $72

50about $449plus per citation$266.50about $183
100about $899plus per citation$533.00about $366

BrightLocal Grow on monthly billing at published location brackets. GBPPromote at $16 for 1, $37 flat for 2 to 7, $5.33 each from 8 up. Citation building is extra on BrightLocal at both billing options.

Reading this fairly. On annual billing the gap narrows considerably. Grow at 50 locations drops from $449 to about $337, so roughly $71 a month rather than $183. If you are confident enough to commit annually, do that comparison rather than this one.

The genuinely fair summary: at 1 to 10 locations these are close enough that you should choose on capability, not price. Past 30 locations, the bracket structure is the deciding factor whichever way you lean.

Final verdict

BrightLocal is the best auditing and client reporting tool in local SEO, and it is honest about not being anything else. That combination is rarer than it should be.

The Local Search Audit is the reason to buy it: a full health check across profile, website and citations that explains why each issue matters in language a client understands. Pair that with location and device level rank tracking, the well regarded Local Search Grid, listings sync across 4 networks, and white label reports that need no formatting, and you have a tool built precisely for someone with clients to answer to.

The things to know before buying are commercial rather than technical. Review management is Grow tier only, so budget from $59 rather than $39 if reputation is part of your work. Prices scale by location bracket, so $449 a month at 50 locations, not $59. Citation building is around $2 each on top. And monthly billing costs about 25 percent more than the annual rate most comparisons quote, including our own previous version of this article.

Buy BrightLocal if audits and reports are your deliverable, you onboard clients regularly, and your location count keeps the brackets proportionate.

Choose GBPPromote if you want the work done rather than reported, and a per location rate that falls as you grow rather than multiplying.

The deciding question is not which tool is better. It is whether you are being paid to diagnose or to fix, and BrightLocal has always been very clear about which one it does.

Frequently asked questions

What is BrightLocal?
A local SEO platform for agencies and multi-location businesses, covering the Local Search Audit, local rank tracking including a geo-grid Local Search Grid, citation tracking and building, listings sync across Google, Bing, Facebook and Apple, review management on its top tier, competitor insights and white label client reporting. Its client onboarding workflow is widely rated best in the category.
How much does BrightLocal cost?
For a single location: Track 39 US dollars, Manage 49, Grow 59 per month. Annual billing drops those to 29, 36 and 44 per month, or 348, 432 and 528 per year. Those lower figures are the annual rates. An earlier version of this article showed them as the monthly price, which understated monthly billing by about 34 percent.
Does BrightLocal pricing increase with more locations?
Yes, and this is the most important thing to understand. The 39 to 59 dollar figures are the 1 location bracket. Grow runs roughly 179 dollars at 11 to 20 locations, 269 at 21 to 30, 449 at 41 to 50 and 899 at 100. Annual billing saves about 25 percent at every bracket. Reviewers also report it does not scale smoothly past around 50 locations.
Does BrightLocal include review management?
Only on Grow. Track and Manage include no review monitoring, no review campaigns and no review widgets. If reputation work is part of your deliverable, BrightLocal’s real entry price is 59 dollars per month rather than the 39 headline. That single gate decides which plan most buyers actually need.
Does BrightLocal have a free trial?
Yes, 14 days with no credit card required. That is genuine evaluation time with zero commitment, and more generous than several competitors in this category who require a sales conversation or offer only a discounted first month. Use it properly: run a real client through audit, citation check, rank scan and report.
Does BrightLocal do geo-grid rank tracking?
Yes. The Local Search Grid tracks Google Business Profile rankings across a geo grid, and independent reviewers rate it among the best implementations available and cheaper than several dedicated alternatives. Geo-grid tracking is therefore not a differentiator against BrightLocal, unlike against tools that only report a single average position.
How much does BrightLocal citation building cost?
Citation Builder is priced separately at around 2 US dollars per citation, on a credit basis, on top of your subscription. Also note the Track plan includes citation tracking only, not building, which reviewers report catches new users out. 50 citations for 1 client is 100 dollars above the plan price.
What are the main drawbacks?
Limited automation is the main one. It measures, audits and reports but does not publish posts or reply to reviews for you. Pricing scales steeply by location bracket and is reported not to scale smoothly past about 50. Review management is gated to the top tier. Citation building costs extra per citation. And there is no social media module.
Is BrightLocal good for beginners?
Yes, and it is one of its real strengths. Clear dashboards, readable reports and a Local Search Audit that explains why each issue matters and how to fix it rather than just flagging problems. The workflow of create a client, run an audit, hand over a branded PDF is regarded as the best in the category.
BrightLocal or GBPPromote, which should I choose?
BrightLocal if auditing, tracking and client reporting are your deliverable, and your location count keeps the brackets affordable. GBPPromote if you want automation alongside insight: AI review replies, auto-posting, review requests, citations included and profile protection, at a rate that falls with volume. At 50 locations that is roughly 449 dollars against 266.50.
Is BrightLocal worth it in 2026?
Yes, if measurement, auditing and client reporting are what you are buying and your location count keeps bracket pricing reasonable. The Local Search Audit and client onboarding workflow are genuinely best in category. Poor value if you need automation, because it deliberately does not post or reply, or if you manage many locations, because the price multiplies while flat per location alternatives do not.
One price, everything included

Run a free geo-grid scan before you compare a single plan

See where your locations rank across their whole catchment, not just at the shopfront. No account, no card, no location brackets to work out. Then decide whether you need a diagnosis or the work done.

$16 for 1 location, $37 flat for 2 to 7, $5.33 each from 8 up. Reviews and citations included at every price

On the numbers. BrightLocal tier prices and location brackets were taken from published pricing and reported figures in August 2026. Brackets change more often than the headline tiers, so confirm those directly before deciding. Citation Builder pricing of about $2 per citation is on a credit basis, separate from the subscription.

On the missing star rating. This review deliberately shows no star score for BrightLocal. There is no sourced public rating cited on this page, and an unsourced score for another company is worth less than nothing. Prices are verified. Opinions are labelled as opinions.

On our bias. GBPPromote is our own product and it competes with BrightLocal. This review corrects 2 errors in our own earlier version by name, states that BrightLocal’s audit and client onboarding are better than ours, and notes that geo-grid tracking is not a differentiator against them.
