Google is now notifying business owners about a new way it may confirm details on Google Business Profiles. According to a recent email shared online, Google may contact businesses through automated calls, text messages, or WhatsApp messages sent to the verified phone number connected to the profile.
This update was shared by Payal Badhran on LinkedIn. In her post, she explained that she received an email from Google about changes in how business information may be verified on GBP.
Here is a copy of that email:

According to the email, Google may occasionally reach out to confirm business details and help keep profiles updated. In some cases, the business owner may also be able to share information, photos, or posts during this process. Google says that this content may then be added directly to the Business Profile on the business owner’s behalf when relevant.
At the same time, Google made it clear that businesses will still have control over these updates. Owners can edit or remove any added information directly from their Google Business Profile whenever needed.
Google also mentioned that any details shared through these calls or messages should follow its content policies. This is important because incorrect or policy-violating information could put the profile at risk and may even lead to suspension, which can sometimes require an appeal to fix.
In addition, Google says business owners can turn off these automated messages if they do not want to receive them.
Overall, this update shows that Google is looking for more direct ways to confirm business information and keep Business Profiles accurate. For local businesses, this makes it even more important to keep contact details updated and make sure all shared information is correct.
