Google Maps appears to be testing a new visual update that makes its live crowd information much easier to notice. The platform is now showing “Live” activity alerts in a bright hot pink color when a location is busier than usual.
This change was first spotted by Claudia Tomina, who shared screenshots and details on LinkedIn.
According to Claudia Tomina, the new hot pink “Live” alerts are designed to immediately catch users’ attention. She wrote, “Hot Pink ‘Live’ Alerts: Busier than usual is designed to immediately catch your eye with the new hot pink color.”
Google Maps already uses its Popular Times feature to show how busy a place usually is throughout the day. It also provides real-time crowd information, helping people decide the best time to visit restaurants, stores, and other locations. With this latest change, Google seems to be making those live updates more visible.
Besides the new color, the screenshots shared by Claudia suggest that Google Maps is receiving several interface improvements. Some users have described the updated look as an AI-inspired facelift that makes important information easier to spot.

At this point, Google has not officially announced the feature. As a result, it is unclear if the hot pink “Live” labels are being tested with a small group of users or if a wider rollout is planned.
Google frequently experiments with new designs and features before releasing them to everyone. So, more users may begin noticing the new look in the future.
