Google seems to be testing a new behaviour in the local pack results. Earlier, when you clicked the More businesses button at the bottom of the local pack, it opened Google Maps. But now, it takes you to the Google Places tab instead.
At first, this looks like a small change. However, once you try to scroll and load more results, a clear bug appears. As you click the Next button, Google shows an error message that says “It looks like there aren’t any ‘Places’ matches on this topic,” and no additional listings appear. This stops users from exploring more results, which can create confusion for anyone checking local options.
Here is a GIF showing the issue in action:

When you click on the More businesses button:

Google takes you directly to the Places tab:

But once you scroll and attempt to move to the next page, the error appears:

This looks like an unexpected bug. It is still not clear if Google planned this update or if the switch to the Places tab came with a technical issue. It might also be a test that is still incomplete.
This issue was first spotted by Syed M. Amir Hassan on X:
Noticing something odd in Google SERP, after clicking ‘More businesses’ under Map Pack, it now sends you to the Places tab (Search Filters). But when you go to the next page, no businesses show up.

Bug or a new update?@rustybrick @JoyanneHawkins pic.twitter.com/1Vv1y88nQG
Soon after, Anthony Higman also shared his observation on X and asked if this is a new feature:
Does Anyone Know When Clicking "More Businesses" From The Google Local Map Pack Changed To Taking You To "Places" Inside Of The Local Map?

It Feels New, But I Could Be Wrong. It's Like This On Mobile And Desktop Now. pic.twitter.com/Bz9DmgLDHh
Many users are now discussing this change on X.
Overall, this update looks new to many users, especially those in the US. It will be interesting to see if Google fixes the pagination bug or changes the behaviour again in the coming days.
