Google appears to be facing a bug that is stopping users from leaving hotel reviews directly from the Google Search desktop interface. At the same time, the review option continues to work normally inside Google Maps and the Hotel search experience.
When users try to post a review from Google Search, they see a notice that says, “Posting is currently turned off.”
Here is a screenshot of New York Marriott Marquis:

Interestingly, this looks more like a feature message, but the behavior strongly suggests a bug. When users click on the details, Google displays this explanation:
“Posting is currently turned off for this type of place. Some types of places are more likely to receive posts, like reviews, that violate Google’s policies. To prevent this, Google has turned off posting.”
However, the issue does not seem limited to a single hotel. Instead, it appears to be happening across all hotels when accessed through the Google Search web interface, which is why many believe this is not intentional.
This issue was first spotted by Valentina Vasileva, who shared it on X. Shortly after, Tim Capper also commented on the situation, saying, “No Idea – appears to be Global. Has to be a bug.”
Noticed this Google alert appearing across all hotels I searched for today. Anyone else seeing this? Curious what’s triggering it. 👀 #GBP @JoyanneHawkins @rustybrick @GuideTwit pic.twitter.com/B2dnZqyXL5

There is also an active forum discussion on X where local SEO professionals are sharing similar experiences.
For now, hotel reviews can still be posted through Google Maps and Hotel search. But until Google confirms or fixes this issue, posting reviews directly from Google Search for hotels appears to be temporarily unavailable.
