Google Business Profiles is testing a new feature that could make setting business hours much easier for merchants.
Instead of manually selecting opening and closing times for every day of the week, businesses may soon be able to simply describe their working hours in plain text. Google will then use AI to understand the information and turn it into structured business hours for Google Search and Google Maps. Accurate hours tell people when you are open. The next step is letting them book a time, and creating an appointment link does that. Hours are one of the small free jobs that keep a listing accurate. There are more of them in getting to the top of Google search for free. Any of this needs access to the profile first. If you do not have it yet, start with verifying your business on Google.
The feature was spotted by Ayman Ali, who shared a screenshot on X.

“This feature is really cool and it will help merchant set accurate business hours and they do not have to set opening hours of each day manually so user experience will be much better now.”

Google Lets Businesses Describe Their Opening Hours
According to the screenshot, Google is testing a new option called “Set your hours automatically.”
The interface tells business owners:
“Describe your opening hours. Google will extract your hours and update them below.”
This means a merchant may be able to enter something simple like:
“Open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM, and closed Sunday.”
Google could then interpret those instructions and automatically fill in the correct opening and closing hours for each day.
Previously, business owners generally had to enter these hours manually inside their Google Business Profile.
How the Feature Could Work?
The process appears to be simple.
A business owner describes their opening hours in normal language. Google then uses AI to understand the schedule and converts it into the standard business hours format shown on the profile.
After that, the extracted hours can be added to the business listing and displayed to customers across Google Search and Google Maps.
This could reduce the number of steps needed when setting up or updating a Google Business Profile.
Why This Could Help Small Businesses?
Keeping business hours accurate is important because customers often check Google before calling or visiting a location.
Incorrect opening hours can create a poor customer experience, especially if someone travels to a business only to find that it is closed.
The new feature could make updating hours quicker for business owners who do not want to manually configure each day.
It may be particularly useful for:
- Small businesses with limited time
- New businesses setting up their Google Business Profile
- Businesses changing their operating hours
- Merchants with different weekday and weekend schedules
- Businesses managing several locations
For multi-location businesses, even small improvements to the editing process can help reduce repetitive work.
AI Continues to Enter Google Business Profile Management
This test is another example of Google using AI to simplify everyday tasks inside its business tools.
Instead of requiring merchants to understand every setting or manually complete each field, Google appears to be experimenting with more natural language-based workflows.
For beginners, this can make Google Business Profile management easier because they can describe what they want instead of working through several individual settings.
However, businesses should still review the hours generated by Google before relying on them. AI may interpret complicated schedules differently, especially when a business has split opening hours, seasonal schedules, or special operating times.
Accurate Business Hours Still Matter for Local Search
Business hours are one of the most important pieces of information customers see on a Google Business Profile.
They can affect customer decisions such as:
- When to visit a business
- When to make a phone call
- When to place an order
- When to request directions
- Whether a location appears open or closed during a search
Therefore, businesses should continue checking their profiles regularly, even if Google makes the setup process more automated.
Special hours for holidays, events, and temporary schedule changes may also still need additional attention.
A Small Feature That Could Save Time
The feature may look like a small update, but it could remove a repetitive task for many merchants.
Allowing business owners to simply describe their schedule and letting Google structure the information could make profile setup faster and more beginner-friendly.
For businesses managing multiple Google Business Profiles, time-saving features like this can become even more useful when repeated across many locations.
Google appears to still be testing the feature, so availability may vary between accounts.
