Google Business Profiles allows business owners to upload photos to their Business Profile. These photos can appear on Google Search and Google Maps, helping customers see what a business looks like before they visit or contact it. Not every upload sticks. When a photo disappears from a profile, the cause is usually on the short list of reasons Google rejects business photos.
Now, it looks like Google may be changing how these photos are shown.
Claudia Tomina shared on LinkedIn that Google Business Profile photos now seem to be sorted by most recently uploaded. In simple words, the newest photos may appear at the top instead of older or randomly displayed images.
She also mentioned that this update was confirmed by Michael G., a Product Manager at Google.
This is a useful update for local businesses because photos play a big role in customer trust. When people search for a restaurant, salon, clinic, hotel, store, or service business, they often check photos before making a decision. Fresh photos can make a profile look more active, updated, and trustworthy.
Earlier, Google Business Profile photos were not always sorted this way. So, business owners could upload new photos, but those images might not appear near the top. Now, if the newest photos are shown first, businesses may have a better chance to highlight recent work, updated interiors, new products, team photos, menu items, events, offers, and customer experiences.
This also means businesses should avoid letting their photo section become outdated. A profile with old images may look less active, while a profile with fresh, high-quality photos can create a stronger first impression.
For local SEO, this small change can matter. Google Business Profile photos help improve profile quality, support customer engagement, and make a business look more real to nearby searchers. So, businesses should upload fresh photos regularly and make sure those images clearly show what customers can expect.
