Google Business Profile API Application Delays

Google Business Profile API Application Delays

Google has announced delays in processing applications for access to the Google Business Profile API.

The update was shared by Victoria Kroll in multiple languages through the Google Business Profiles Forums.

According to Google, the delay is happening because the company is currently receiving an unusually high number of API applications. As a result, businesses and developers waiting for Google Business Profile API access may have to wait longer than expected.

Google’s Business Profile Community is also currently displaying a notice saying that support teams are experiencing higher than usual wait times.

Google Confirms Google Business Profile API Processing Delays

Victoria Kroll explained the situation in the Google Business Profile support forum.

She wrote:

“Due to an unusually high volume of API applications, processing times are currently extended.”

Google said its team is continuing to work through the applications. However, applicants should not expect a specific timeline for approval right now.

Kroll added that Google is “working diligently to process all applications” but “as of this time,” Google “cannot provide a specific response timeframe for pending applications.”

This means businesses, agencies, software companies, and developers who recently applied for Google Business Profile API access may have to remain patient until Google clears the current backlog.

The official Google Business Profile Community currently lists the API application processing delay as a featured announcement.

Do Not Submit Another API Application

Google also shared an important instruction for businesses that already have an application waiting for approval.

Kroll asked applicants to:

“not submit additional applications while your initial application is pending.”

She also explained:

“Once your application has been submitted, you do not need to do anything further.”

In other words, submitting another application will not necessarily make the process faster.

Businesses should instead allow Google to process their existing application.

This is especially important because multiple submissions may create more confusion while Google’s team is already dealing with a high volume of requests.

Recent discussions in the Google Business Profile Community also show users reporting API access requests remaining pending for more than two weeks. In one September 2026 discussion, Local SEO expert Krystal Taing confirmed that there were delays with API application processing and said the issue had been raised with the GBP API team.

Local SEO Expert Krystal Taing Highlights the Backlog

Local SEO expert Krystal Taing also shared an update about the issue on LinkedIn.

She wrote:

If you’ve applied for access to the Google Business Profile API and haven’t heard back yet, or you’re still seeing 0 quota, you’re not alone!

Google is currently experiencing a very high volume of API access requests and is actively working through the backlog.

The update is useful for developers who may have completed their application but are still seeing zero API quota or have not received a response.

In many cases, applicants may assume that something went wrong with their submission.

However, Google’s latest announcement suggests that the delay may simply be connected to the larger application backlog.

Similar complaints have appeared in the Google Business Profile Community during 2026. Users have reported waiting around two weeks or longer for basic API access requests, while others reported seeing zero quota while waiting for approval.

What Is the Google Business Profile API?

The Google Business Profile API allows approved businesses and developers to manage certain Business Profile activities through software and automated systems.

For example, companies managing many Google Business Profile locations may use API access to simplify tasks across their locations.

This can be especially useful for:

  • Multi-location businesses
  • Franchise networks
  • Local SEO agencies
  • Reputation management platforms
  • Listing management software
  • Marketing technology companies
  • Developers building GBP management tools

Instead of manually managing every location separately, API access can help software platforms manage information and workflows at a larger scale.

Therefore, delays in receiving API access can affect product launches, integrations, internal tools, and local SEO platforms that depend on Google Business Profile data.

Some Applicants Have Already Reported Long Waits

The current announcement appears to confirm a problem that some Google Business Profile API applicants have already experienced.

Earlier in 2026, several users posted in Google’s community about API applications that had remained pending beyond their expected processing period.

For example, one user reported an API request remaining in progress for more than two weeks. Another applicant reported waiting 14 days without receiving a response after submitting a basic API access request.

These reports do not mean every application will experience the same waiting period.

Google has specifically said that it cannot currently provide a particular response timeframe.

Therefore, processing times may vary depending on application volume and individual circumstances.

Google Business Profile Support Is Also Experiencing Delays

The API backlog is not the only area where users may currently notice slower responses.

Google also has a broader notice across the Google Business Profile help area stating:

“We are currently experiencing higher than usual wait times for support. You may find quick answers to common questions in our Help Center/FAQs.”
